Let's Do Some Good!

We live in difficult times. On a very basic level, it’s our responsibility to take care of each other and try to look after the well-being of our fellow human beings. It's a pretty simple notion, and it's fundamental to the philosophy of Dreaming with Isa.

For those of you who don’t know me, I was born in Brazil, studied Fashion Design and Costume Design in Rio de Janeiro, and moved to North America with friends. That’s when I met my husband. Nine years later we are sharing our time between Brazil and Canada. Being in Toronto now and watching the news from Brazil breaks my heart. People are hungry and living in terrible conditions, especially in Manaus, the capital city of the state of Amazonas. I got in touch with my cousin who worked as a doctor at one of Manaus' public hospitals to find out how I could help. That’s when I connected with a Milka, a nurse who works in that same hospital, who also doubles as a community charitable organizer.

Milka's charitable work is now looking after feeding a relatively small, but needy, group of 200 families there in Manaus... families that are out of work because of the pandemic crisis, but are not yet receiving any government assistance because of bureaucracy and administrative delays. In the meantime, they are quite literally going hungry. To think of those families makes me feel a great urge to do anything possible to help.

And so I'm giving 10% of all of Dreaming with Isa's sales revenues to help Milka purchase 'Cestas Básicas', which are parcels of basic essential non-perishable foods like rice, beans, flour etc. Each parcel provides enough basics to sustain a family of 4 for up to 2 weeks! For these people that are legitimately at-risk as a result of this crisis, providing these parcels can quite literally save their lives.

Granted, a lot more than 200 families in the world are in dire need of help right now. But if we can at least help some people, especially ones that need it so badly, then it's something.

As of the end of April, we've donated 32 Cestas and counting... which means we've already provided food basics for more than 120 people for the next 2 weeks!!! (We're also donating more every week, and will update this figure here.)

Our goal is to provide Cestas for ALL 200 families, and I'm super confident we can get there! I'm tracking every dollar and every step, from the moment of your purchase all the way through to the delivery of the Cestas to the recipient families, and I will be posting updates and photos on this page as this initiative progresses, with full transparency and accountability.

If we ALL get into the mindset of helping others, then we can collectively make a meaningful difference. I'm not just referring to this initiative, but to how we go about our lives in general! One small action can certainly help someone in need in a finite way, but many small actions from many people can quickly tally up to a major positive impact... one that can truly be seen and felt.

Thanks for reading, and for taking part :)

- Isa
